October is one of the best months to explore Orange County. The weather still feels unmistakably Southern California, but the calendar begins to look like fall, with pumpkin patches, cultural festivals, community celebrations, outdoor activities, film events, and plenty of opportunities to spend a weekend somewhere new.
Whether you live in Orange County, are visiting for the weekend, or recently moved to the area, October 2026 has something happening across the county. From family-friendly fall traditions in Orange and international culture in Irvine to movies in Newport Beach and community events closer to Mission Viejo, here are some October events worth putting on your calendar.
Irvine Park Railroad Pumpkin Patch
September 12–October 31, 2026
Irvine Regional Park, Orange
Few things signal the beginning of fall quite like a trip to a pumpkin patch, and Irvine Park Railroad’s annual Pumpkin Patch is one of Orange County’s classic seasonal activities.
The 2026 Pumpkin Patch runs through October 31 and includes activities such as train rides and wagon rides. Families can make a day of it by exploring Irvine Regional Park while enjoying one of Orange County’s most recognizable fall traditions.
An important planning detail: reservations are required on October weekends, while weekday visits do not require reservations. The attraction is open from 10 AM to 6 PM on weekdays and 8 AM to 6 PM on weekends. A separate vehicle entrance fee applies for Irvine Regional Park.
Before visiting, check the official Irvine Park Railroad Pumpkin Patch page for reservations, activity tickets, and current hours.
Irvine Global Village Festival
October 10, 2026
10 AM–6 PM
Great Park, Irvine
If you want to experience cultures from around the world without leaving Orange County, the Irvine Global Village Festival deserves a spot on your October calendar.
The annual event brings together international food, cultural experiences, performances, and activities celebrating the diversity of the community. This year marks the festival’s 25th anniversary. Explore the official Irvine Global Village Festival website for programming and updates.
Free parking is available, with optional premier parking listed at $10 per vehicle. Review the festival visitor information before heading out.
Location: Great Park, 8000 Great Park Boulevard, Irvine. Follow the city’s festival parking and directions guide for arrival instructions.
Newport Beach Film Festival
October 15–22, 2026
Newport Beach
October isn’t only about pumpkins and fall festivals. It is also an exciting month for film lovers.
The Newport Beach Film Festival returns October 15–22, bringing films, premieres, and special events to one of Orange County’s best-known coastal communities.
It is also a great excuse to make an entire Newport Beach day out of your visit. Explore the area, have dinner near the coast, and then finish the evening with a film.
38th Annual Walk Against Drugs & Community Fair
October 17, 2026
8 AM–12 PM
Mission Viejo
For Mission Viejo residents, this is an especially meaningful local event.
The City of Mission Viejo and Orange County Sheriff’s Department will host the 38th Annual Walk Against Drugs on Saturday, October 17. The morning begins with a rally at Mission Viejo High School before participants walk along La Paz Road and Oso Creek Trail to the Village Green at Oso Viejo Community Park.
The destination will host a Community Fair and South County Disaster Preparedness Expo featuring community organizations, activities, food trucks, and public-safety displays.
Oktoberfest at Old World Village
Huntington Beach
For something with a completely different atmosphere, October is a great time to visit Old World Village in Huntington Beach.
The European-inspired village is known for its annual Oktoberfest celebration, making it one of those Orange County destinations that can feel surprisingly different from the coastal and suburban communities surrounding it.
If you’re planning to attend, check the official Old World Oktoberfest schedule and ticket information before visiting. Admission prices, hours, and age restrictions vary by session, so choose a date and time appropriate for your group.
Annual Urban Ag & Garden Expo
October 3, 2026
Irvine
Gardeners and anyone interested in growing food locally may want to add the South Coast Research and Extension Center’s Annual Open House and Urban Ag Expo to their October plans.
The 2026 event takes place Saturday, October 3, and also marks the center’s 70th anniversary celebration. The organization hosts educational and agricultural activities throughout the year, including seasonal produce events.
This is a nice alternative to the larger festivals if you’re looking for something educational and locally focused.
Make a Fall Day Out of Exploring Orange County
You don’t necessarily need a major event to enjoy October in Orange County.
Pick a community you haven’t explored recently and build your own fall day around it. Walk through Downtown San Juan Capistrano, spend an afternoon around Dana Point Harbor, explore Laguna Beach, visit a local certified farmers market, take the family to a pumpkin patch, or discover a restaurant or coffee shop you haven’t tried before.
One of the benefits of living in Orange County is how many completely different experiences you can enjoy across its communities.
October Is a Great Time to Rediscover Where You Live
Living in Orange County is about much more than having beautiful weather and being close to the coast. It is the collection of communities, traditions, parks, events, and local places that eventually become part of your everyday life.
That’s also why I encourage homebuyers to think beyond the property itself when choosing where to live. Your neighborhood influences where you’ll take morning walks, where your family spends weekends, which local businesses become favorites, and which community traditions eventually become your own.
If you’re considering moving to Mission Viejo, South Orange County, or another Orange County community, I’d be happy to help you explore not only the homes available, but also the lifestyle surrounding them.
Please note: Event dates, schedules, admission requirements, and activities can change. Check directly with each event organizer before attending.
