Built as a bedroom community of Los Angeles, Mission Viejo officially incorporated in 1988. Mission Viejo has a population of 93,837 residents and has an average elevation of 410 ft. A stand out feature that residents love about Mission Viejo is the man-made lake at the northern end of the city. Aptly named Lake Mission Viejo, lake association members are able to boat, fish and swim at the lake year-round. Events are held at the lake including the annual summer concert series which are free concerts members are able to enjoy. Mission Viejo is a long city that runs mainly north to south with Marguerite Parkway as the main roadway taking you from one end to the other. Mission Viejo is well-known for the wonderful schools throughout the city. The west half of the city is primarily zoned for Saddleback Valley Unified School District while the East and South ends of Mission Viejo are zone for Capistrano Unified School District. Students in Mission Viejo attend one of three high schools: Mission Viejo High School, Trabuco Hills High School and Capistrano Valley High School.
